Recently, American entrepreneur Patrick Bet-David said in an interview that since Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi and his family moved in next door, his home has increased in value by $25 million.
According to the British Daily Mail, Messi signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with David Beckham’s Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, worth $50 million to $60 million per season, and moved to Florida this summer.
In September, Messi’s family purchased a $10.75 million mansion in Fort Lauderdale. The mansion is located on a canal running through South Florida and has 10 bedrooms, a spa room, two docks, and a swimming pool. It is less than a 15-minute drive from Inter Miami’s training facility.
In an interview with the media, Bet-David said: “As of now, based on the current market, my house has gone up $25 million since Messi moved in. When Messi first moved next door, everyone also wanted to move into our community. This community is on an island. It is a gated community with only one road in, so it is very safe and private. Now that Messi is there, everyone comes by boat to look at the homes.”
It is reported that Inter Miami’s reputation also rose sharply after Messi came to the United States. As soon as news of Messi’s signing broke, the previously little-known Inter Miami gained more than one million followers on social media overnight.
During Messi’s two-and-a-half-year contract, his total annual compensation, including salary, bonuses, and equity dividends, will reach $125 million to $150 million. For Inter Miami, whose total revenue last year was only $27 million, this clearly exceeded the club’s ability to pay.
Behind this was club chairman Beckham’s effort to mobilize Major League Soccer and its sponsors to provide club equity, along with a bundled sponsorship agreement from Apple and Adidas—the compensation for Messi was “crowdfunded” by Major League Soccer’s 29 teams.
